Elvia is a Norwegian company that is primarily involved in the distribution of electricity. It operates as a distribution system operator (DSO) in Norway, and is responsible for ensuring the delivery of electricity to homes and businesses in its service area.
The internal strategic work in Elvia followed a familiar pattern: examining external drivers, assessing internal resources and potential obstacles, and defining long-term objectives. However, the new CEO, firmly believed this wasn’t enough: every Elvia employee must feel a sense of unity and enthusiasm regarding the new strategy, understanding its goals and rationale.
As the country’s largest network company, Elvia has an important societal mission: to give power to the renewable society. In order to maintain their competitive edge, Elvia had to balance developing and following a robust strategy while being adaptable to changing market conditions.

Group reflections on associated opportunities and challenges, and vital success factors, enabled selected leaders to debate the inputs from the audience, resulting in successful alignment and great data input for further strategic work. Overall, the embedding process provided very effective, and the departments simultaneously had the autonomy to specify how they would actualize the strategy.
